Con il termine print server si indica un dispositivo dotato di memoria interna che ha la funzione specifica di ampliare il tipo di connettività di stampanti non dotate di connessione di rete, il print server si interfaccia tra la stampante (usb, seriale e parallela) e una rete (wired/wireless), consentendone l'uso all'interno di una rete da parte di tutti.

 

La maggior parte dei Print Server in commercio svolge essenzialmente solo le funzioni base, ci sono però anche dispositivi in grado di gestire anche stampanti multifunzione.
